Together for a cleaner, greener Portland.

Community Conservation Initiative (CCI) brings immigrant communities together to protect and preserve the environment we all share. Through education, advocacy, and hands-on programs, we make sustainable living more accessible for everyone.

Our Goals

To unite and support the immigrant community of Greater Portland through shared cultural identity and environmental stewardship.

To respond to the increased impact of pollution and environmental degradation on the immigrant community by partnering with city stakeholders to increase accessibility to trash and recycling bins.

To enable the immigrant community of Greater Portland through culturally and linguistically appropriate education regarding home waste management and recycling.

Focusing on the environmental conservation of the Greater Portland area and its diverse needs in order to cultivate integrated, inclusive, self-sufficient communities.

Our Story

About fifteen years ago, Ndoli Philbet Fulani moved to Maine and started integrating into his new community. After working various jobs, he was able to save money and purchased his dream car, a truck. It didn’t take long for his friends and neighbors to start asking for his help with moving furniture and disposing of trash. As he offered these services, he noticed something that both touched his heart and shocked him: the lack of trash sorting in his community. Having made many trips to the dumpster, he recognized the need for education about recycling and waste sorting. Motivated by his love for the environment, he decided to start a nonprofit organization aimed at keeping his community clean and protect the environment.

Our Community

We serve not only the people who live, work, and enjoy life in all of our local towns and cities, but also all of the beneficiaries of local initiatives that seek to raise awareness, educate about data analysis using evidence-based assessments on a local, state, and federal basis, and by using public input and democratic processes to design, approve and implement effective solutions.

The people are in order of focus: asylum seekers, refugees, non-English speakers, low earning households, multi-racial and multi-ethnic households, low health literacy households, and those seeking to include their talents, experience, knowledge, voices, and their in-service volunteer energy to creating useful, effective pathways for all residents to work together.
